Hello, Family and Friends!
I wanted to take the time out to fill everyone in on the next life endeavor I will be taking, and also ask for a little bit of your help if you wouldn't mind. This February coming up, I will be taking a trip to Africa to volunteer my time to those in need. I will be overseas for ten days which will be spent at The Josef Home in Nazaret, Ethiopia. This orphanage cares for approximately fifty-three children and this year, for the first time, has welcomed infants into their care. All of the children here are taken care of completely by The Josef Home. My duties there will be to basically show these children the love and tenderness that they have unfortunately not gotten the chance to receive from their families, who have been taken away from them. I will be bringing with me many of the necessities they lack in everyday life such as school supplies and clothes as well as more child based toys. I will be there as a mentor and friend to them to play, teach, and sometimes just talk whenever they need to. I believe The Josef Home is a fantastic organization and am doing everything in my power to make my trip there in February a reality. I would love nothing more than to devote my services to a place such as this, a place that I believe in.
I make it a priority in my life to help others maybe less fortunate than myself, and going on this service trip would be truly life changing for me. I cannot even put into words how much being in this orphanage will mean to me and the difference I know I can make in these children's lives. As some of you may know, I am a childhood education major at Manhattan College and this experience would also hugely benefit me on my path to becoming the best educator I can be. I was given this life and believe I am here today to play a part, no matter how big or small, in making this world a better place.
This is where you all come in. This trip is very quickly becoming very expensive for a college student like me. Between the passport, visa, immunizations, airfare, and so on the costs are really adding up. I am saving money everyday in order to be sure I go on this trip, regardless of cost, but having some help financially would be GREATLY appreciated. Any little bit helps to reach my deadline of December 1st which is approaching quickly. I would be forever indebted to each of you if you decide to sponsor me on this mission. I would gladly accept any monetary help by check. Checks can be made out to Kathryn Smith and can be mailed to my parent's house for deposit. They live at 8965 Ash Lane, Bridgeport, NY 13030. You may also make donations through this website using your Credit or Debit Card. Any extra money that I do not use to get me to Africa will be donated to the orphanage at the end of my trip.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Love, Katie
P.S. Also, if you could please pass this e-mail on to anyone whom I may have forgotten, that would be wonderful. Thanks, again.
